Live(In) Gallery announces its April show,
Dream Land, New Paintings by Megan Kelley
April 4 - 26, 2015
Opening reception: Saturday, April 4, 7:00 - 10:00 pm
In April Live(In) presents new paintings by Megan Kelley. Megan Kelley’s painting revolve around color, light and experimental interactions. Using a highly intuitive process she conducts trials and tests between mediums such as lacquer and resin, they initiate a chemical reaction to create a dichotomy between physical light and the illusion of light. In addition, to the exploration of light Kelley is interested in returning to the roots of traditional painting techniques and reinterpreting them for a new generation. She sees her reworking of canvases as bringing the underpaintings to the surface. Through her use of volatile paints which often work against one another she achieves reactions which alter the surface and reveal older layers of paint underneath. Kelley says of her process, “Working with mediums that have a variable property adds an enigma and thrill to the pending results of a painting.” By combining contrived color schemes and non traditional materials through a series of experiments she creates vibrant, ethereal yet turbulent, ambiguous dreamscapes. Her works are reminiscent of landscape and lunar topography, illuminated from within the canvas.
Megan Kelley is a local Cincinnati artist. She obtained her BFA in Painting from the Art Academy of Cincinnati in 2013 and has since then been actively working and participating in group shows. Kelley has shown work at Phyllis Weston and Harvest Gallery, in Cincinnati, and most recently in New York City at the ArtistRun Gallery.
